Our cities need big ideas. Young people need a platform. That’s where NXT City comes in.
We’re a not-for-profit organization that connects young leaders with city builders to create, activate and program public spaces. Here’s why we started:
A new wave of creative talent is moving to cities
A recent study by the Citi Foundation ranked Toronto the best city in the world for young people. We believe it – we see the talent, feel the energy and hear the optimism. At the same time, we recognized young people weren’t part of the dialogue.
A lack of investment in the public realm
While other global cities race forward with precedent-setting, economic-driving, tourist-attracting public spaces, Toronto was slower to keep pace.
In just two short years, NXT City has:
- Garnered over 200 innovative public space ideas through NXT City Prize
- Worked with top civic leaders including Toronto’s Chief Planner Jennifer Keesmaat
- Partnered with top public and private organizations
- Brought together over 1,200 people for our annual NXT City Night party
And that’s just the beginning.
